In terms of more housing - I am 100% in favor of alleviating the housing crisis in MA by building more housing. Do we have statistics on how many of the CURRENT units are occupied? And how many of them could be used to assist in the ongoing housing crisis if the rents were lower?

In terms of Tenet, I didn't attend that meeting, but I had to call an ambulance after Christmas and we begged the EMTs to take us to Newton Wellesley instead of Framingham Union. I had both my kids at Framingham 15/10 years ago and my experiences there as a new mom were wonderful. But in the last couple years when we've needed emergency treatment, it's been awful. My kid needed to be evaluated for a concussion last spring - no pediatric doc on duty and was seen by an adult neuro who could not have been more unpleasant to my kid. There's no pediatric ortho there any more. My husband has been to the ER several times there - physicians and nurses not wearing masks while treating seriously ill patients, no beds to be admitted to because there's no nursing staff on the floors so he's in the ER for 40+ hours, plus it looks dirty. The doctors and nurses we've seen in the ER have been patient and kind and concerned, but they are hampered by an admin team that really doesn't give a flying you know what about this community.

That is the huge problem with the apartments - the cost. Quickly looking at the rents: Union House 1 bedroom starts at $2475 and a 2 bedroom starts at $4078. Modera studio is $2478 and a 2 bedroom is $2949. Bancroft had the smallest 1 bedroom at 551 sq ft and not lake front at $2100. Affordable for some, but not for all Framingham residents. I could not tell you the occupancy percentages, but it appears most of the complexes are near full.

What I would like to see is more of a diversity of housing stock, like condos. What I do hope about the rezoning is not just zoning for housing but zoning for economics, small businesses, innovation centers, entertainment. Relieving the housing crisis is important - all the cities and towns have to play a role - but we're going to have a hard time attracting people and businesses if there is nothing to do here.

As for the hospital, everything you say is exactly what I hear. Tenet thinks it is all imaginary. Caring would be a good place for them to start. We'll be in trouble without a functioning hospital.

That is INSANE for apartments - that is not going to solve the housing crisis at all. Those rents are more than my mortgage for a four bedroom house. I would love to see more condos too - I'd love to be able to see more affordable housing for seniors looking to downsize too. In law apartments/units cannot be the only solution for that.

Agreed. In law apartments have a place, but it isn't the solution for everyone.
